Faith, Hope & Charity is excited to welcome incoming FHC Board member Connie Skibsted, and FHC Foundation Board members Jake Schable and Patti Todd. All have a lengthy history as active members of the Storm Lake community with strong commitment to special needs children and their families. Their leadership contributions to our organization will play an important role in the future of FHC and our mission: to improve the lives of children and young adults with special needs by promoting independence and individuality.
Connie Skibsted is a longtime resident of Storm Lake. She completed her undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Deaf Education. Her graduate work is from the University of South Dakota in Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education. She also holds a consultant license which she utilized during her work with AEA. Connie taught special education for 37 years, spending her last 25 years teaching Early Childhood/Early Childhood Special Education which is her true passion.
Connie and her husband Dave live on their small farm just east of Storm Lake. Dave, a retired teacher, now enjoys “hobby farming” and officiating at various athletic events. They have raised three children; all attended Storm Lake Community Schools and have remained in the Midwest. Amy is a principal at an inner city elementary school in Blaine, MN; Ben is an engineer for Hearth & Home in Lake City, MN; and Nick is a principal at the new intermediate school in Sioux Falls, SD. Connie and Dave are the proud grandparents of four children. In addition to teaching and raising her family, Connie has been active in the community; she has served on the Witter Gallery Board, a variety of church boards, as well as the Star Spangled Spectacular committee. After being involved for so many years, Connie is looking forward to bringing her knowledge to the Faith, Hope & Charity board.
With her educational perspective, she has a great passion for families and children with special needs.
Jake Schable was born and raised in Storm Lake, and attended Storm Lake High School. He graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University, with a major in Ag Business, and a minor in Agronomy in 2014. After college he worked for CHS Cooperatives for 1½ years at their corporate headquarters in Inver Grove Heights, MN (suburb of St. Paul) as a Credit Analyst for their Cenex Fuel Division. Moving to Mapleton, IA, Jake worked for First State Bank of Mapleton for 1 year as an Ag Loan Officer. He then moved back to Storm Lake and became one of the initial employees for United Bank of Iowa’s start up location here. Jake started as an Ag Loan officer, and after just over one year was promoted to his current role as Vice President/Branch Manager. He has worked for United Bank of Iowa in Storm Lake for 9 years.
Jake’s wife of 9 years is a RN for Trimark Family Health Clinic. They have a 6 year daughter and a 3 year old son. Last year the family moved to the Schable family farm just east of Storm Lake where he and his father have a 40 head cow calf herd raising show cattle. In September, they had their 12th Annual Club Calf Sale. Jake has served on the Buena Vista County Fair Board for the past 8 years and is currently serving as board Secretary. Additionally, Jake has served as a beef superintendent at the fair for the past 9 years, served on the Buena Vista County 4H Endowment Committee for the past 4 years, and coached his daughters youth soccer team last fall.
Jake enjoys golfing, raising cattle, and spending time with his family.
Patti Todd grew up in North Central Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University. Patti and her family moved to Storm Lake in 2000, where Patti works as the Administrative Assistant for CommUNITY Education. As the mother of a son who has autism, Patti has become an advocate for her son and other children with special needs, and served on the Iowa Developmental Disabilities Council for three years.
Patti’s husband Mike is the Senior Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer with Central Bank in Storm Lake, and served as a member of the Faith, Hope & Charity Board of Directors for six years (2004-2010). Patti & Mike are the proud parents of three children, Cassie, Rachel and Jake; all attended St. Mary’s School. Cassie and Rachel are currently in college, and Jake is employed and participates in day-hab through Genesis Development. Jake has “grown-up” in the FHC family, receiving respite and SCL services through Faith, Hope & Charity for fifteen years.
As a parent advocate seeking to discover new opportunities to advance the development of children with special needs, Patti brings a valuable perspective to the FHC Foundation Board.
